Stewarding our Land and Natural Resources

Conserve Our Natural Resources

Policies for a healthy rural environment are critical not just for rural residents but also to protect the natural resources on which everyone depends: clean water and air, healthy soil, and thriving biodiversity are important for all of us, and these start in rural areas.

  • Boost farmer income and create good jobs by funding conservation practices, farm and small business renewable energy, tree planting, wetland restoration, and the Civilian Conservation Corps.1
  • Protect water quality and confront the impacts of climate change on American farms. Stop the attacks on climate science and fully fund research on climate change, mitigation, and on-farm renewable energy. Improve climate-related crop insurance and the effectiveness of voluntary conservation programs with compliance requirements.2

Notes

  1. See Climate Stewardship Act. The EQIP Improvement Act sets lower payment limitations for Environmental Quality Incentive Program recipients, shifting conservation program subsidies away from large concentrated animal feeding operations, which often receive the majority of funding. It also makes more funding available for small farms across the country.
  2. See Agricultural Resilience Act.
